Hopewell Valley Green Week

Hopewell Valley Green Week is a series of district, school, and community-based activities, centered around environmental challenges and solutions. This year’s theme is "Climate Action: Caring for People and Planet."  Green Week will take place from April 15 to 22, with events both during and outside of the school day.

As in years past, Green Week celebrations will take place throughout all Hopewell Valley Schools.  Activities at the four elementary schools include pollinator planting with the Sourland Conservancy, Walk/Bike/Roll to school day, a Green Week Student Expo, zero waste lunch challenges, investigating microplastics with the Watershed, gardening, time outdoors in nature, and more!  Timberlane Middle School will host a stormwater runoff workshop for students that will highlight the FoHVOS rain garden installation in front of the school.  Students at Central High School can choose from a variety of Eco Lunch and Learn activities, including meeting climate activist Nyombi Morris, hearing about the Youth Environmental Society’s trip to Washington D.C., and learning about Green Careers.  High School events require pre-registration by students before 4/14.

Other Green Week events to note are The True Cost film screening and panel discussion with HVCHS students and sustainable fashion scholar Michelle Gabriel at the Hopewell Theater on Sunday, April 16.  On Tuesday, April 18, HVCHS students will join Renata Barnes, Director of the Outdoor Equity Alliance’s Agrihood Program, and local farmer Tomia MacQueen for a conversation about Food, Farming, and Justice.  Wednesday, April 19, members of the district’s Climate Action Committee will talk about the development of the HVRSD Climate Action Plan.  And on Thursday, April 20, you are invited to participate with friends, colleagues, and family in the 3rd annual Eco Trivia Night Fundraiser for the Outdoor Equity Alliance.

Green Week also encompasses a variety of community-based events, including FoHVOS Clean Communities Day on Saturday, April 15, the Watershed Stream Clean Ups Saturday, April 15 and 22, and the Hopewell Valley Bunny Hop 5K Walk/Run Fundraiser for the Class of 2024 and the Washington Crossing Park Association on Saturday, April 22.  More events taking place in the community can be found on the Green Week website.
